Hello Year 3!

Below is an overview of what we will be learning about this week.

Home learning overview Sumer 2 Week 1-(A Word file)

Value of the Week:

Pride – At the end of the week we would love to see something you are proud of!

Let’s see your proud selfie shots!

Word of the Week:

Destination – a place you are aiming to arrive at.

English:

Reading

This week there are two great reading comprehension activities all about rivers.

1: Rivers of the world: RIVER Rivers of the World -(Pdf file)

2 European rivers: RIVER European Rivers -(Pdf file)

Writing

We’d like you to imagine you were the captain of a cruise ship. You’re planning your world-wide river cruise. We’d like you to design an advertisement poster to sell tickets.Consider the following information to include:

  • What rivers will you visit (your reading above will help)?
  • What famous landmarks will you see?
  • What special features does your cruise ship have?
  • …and of course, how much will the tickets be? 🛒

Spellings:

Mr Garry’s spellings: trip, river, bank, mouth, ticket, landmark, sights, cruise, source

Mrs Calley’s spellings: natural, occasional, actual, accidental, medical, national, capital, vocal

Get Creative:

Let’s get arty!

We’d like you to imagine your cruise ship has docked at a beautiful scene. Can you draw it?

Consider:

  • Are you visiting a famous city with amazing architecture? It could be London, Berlin…
  • Are you visiting a historic landmark; think Egypt?
  • Is it a beauty spot showing off nature?

Use any media you like: sketching pencil, coloured pencils, paints, felt tips, materials…

Time to Move:

You can complete your own outdoor activity or complete at least 2 ‘PE with Joe Wicks’ sessions, Oti Mabuse dance sessions, or Cosmic Kids Yoga sessions this week.

Science:

Science – Enquiry time!

Once again this week we are encouraging you to be real scientists and to make careful observations about shadows.

How does a shadow change over time?

See the attached sheet for more information, along with the sundial activity for a bit of an extra hands-on challenge. Have fun!

Maths:

Let’s begin to move on from analogue time to digital time.

Stater: The video below is a nice introduction to reading digital clocks.

Main Activity: Use the flashcards to read the digital ties for o’clock, half past and quarter past:

Complete the matching activity with analogue clocks and digital clocks showing the same times.

Extension learning: There are 10 quick and fun activities listed on this site to reinforce all areas of time learning.

Our World:

Read the individual world river fact sheets. Can you mimic the style to write you own fact sheet about your chosen river? This could be a river taken form your reading comprehension or you could research your own-the River Mersey or the River Thames for example.
