Week Commencing 29th June 2020

Hello Year 5!

Below is an overview of what we will be learning about this week;

Plan Week 11 (Word doc.)

Plan Week 11 (PDF)

Value of the Week:

Resilience. Show resilience in everything you do this week. Don’t give up! Try, try and try again!

Word of the Week:

Assonance – this is also called ‘vowel rhyme’. Assonance is the repetition of a pattern of similar sounds within a sentence.

We would like you to complete the comprehension questions for the ‘Mars’ text.

Using this link, please complete the lesson on ‘Figurative Language and Imagery in Poetry’. Watch the video clips and then have a go at activities 1 and 2. (There is a third activity that you can complete, however this is optional.) We have uploaded the worksheets for activities 1 and 2 below.

Please practise ‘Adverbials of Place Spellings’. Children in Miss Halligan’s English set may want to continue practising spellings from the 100 club instead.

Get Creative:

For this week’s creative activity, we want you to draw with Rob! We want you to draw a self-portrait and send it in!

You could even add a nice background of your favourite place to be or draw some different members of your family!

Time to Move:

Virtual Sports Day!

This video includes 3 Sports Day style activities to complete each day of the week!

Seeing as our leaf detective activity proved quite popular a few weeks ago, we now have another nature-inspired challenge!

Can you identify birds in your garden or on a local walk?

Use our handy bird-spotting guide to help you!

The maths activities this week continue to focus on transformations. The lessons are delivered to you by ‘Oak National Academy’, which has been formed by several teachers across the country to deliver different lessons for home learning.

If you enjoyed the ‘I See Reasoning’ lessons, they are available via this link:

Our World:

This week we would like you to learn about the seven continents and five oceans of the world and how to map them using a globe and an atlas.

Start by following this link:

Watch the two videos, read the information and then complete activity 1 in the  link.

If you have a printer, print out and complete activity 2:

If you don’t have a printer, complete activity 3 by following this link to the Geography Explorer game:
